GDC Day One

I won't be live blogging any sessions or anything, and some of the stuff I'll be seeing and meetings I go to I won't be able to talk about, but I definitely wanted to keep a record of this year's GDC.

So far? I'm at the airport about 2 hours early and using the free WiFi at DIA (thank you shutterfly for sponsoring this session).  I land in about 4.5 hours and will then go to my hotel, drop some stuff off and before I have to be anywhere tonight, I'll go register and wander around the Moscone Center.  I do love that place.

GDC

Getting really excited to head out to the GDC again this year, and in a new capacity for me, so that should be fun.

I still haven't been to PAX, but this is my favorite conference of the year.  I think its the access to the developers and designers and although the gaming press is there, they seem to be considerably less obtrusive.  Not every day you can sit at a round table with Peter Molyneux.

Hi. Hiatus.

It was after a GDO meeting at Westwood College in 2007 that Josh and I discussed doing a webcomic or a blog about games.  Lofty goals, big ideas... the sky was the limit.  Why did we want to start something?  It wasn't to compete with the likes of IGN or Kotaku.  We never had any intention of that.  We wanted a voice.  A place to share our opinions and our passion about games.  We wanted something to point to when we were asked in an interview, "What have you done outside of work/school that shows passion for games."

A Tale of Two Endings

I recently finished two games in the same night.  The problem I've had recently is there are too many damn games to play.  A great problem to have...  but I buy them and play them so I can have something to podcast about or post (yeah, right). But because I'm about 75% deep into 6 games, it means I haven't been finishing much.  But I am now at the place where UI'll probably finish literally 6 games within a week. Doing this provides an uncommon comparison for how games end.

Short version: Darksiders, good.  Borderlands, bad.

Dante's Inferno Preview - Thoughts on the Demo

EA has released a Dante's Inferno demo into the world.  One of EA's new intellectual properties (not a sports game, or sequel),  making this game a peer of Dead Space and Mirror's Edge.  The key bulletpoints EA wants you to know are these:

-It's based on the epic poem

-It's a mature game (which equals nudity and gore)

-You travel through Hell

-Oh, and there are also breasts in the game

Onlive Answers the Critics...9 Months Later

Steve Perlman, Founder and CEO of the company behind Onlive, has answered some of the questions we've had for over half a year.  At Columbia University he put on a lengthy presentation detailing some of the features of Onlive, and more importantly, spoke about about the science behind this product.  Click here for the video and rest of my opinion.

See Rookie Horror's Character Modeling on Pixologic

Rookie Horror, aka Josh Herman, aka one of this site's editors, has added several of his character models to Pixologic.  These are models created through Zbrush, and are incredibly detailed.  Using flash, you can view several models in 360 degrees.  Find the turntable by artist Josh Herman at the following link: Pixologic Turntables. PS. It's on the second page.

So, whatdja get?

Holiday CheerNo matter what you celebrate this time of year, most people I know got some type of gift in the last week.  So I ask, what did you get this year? Gift Card? New console?  Games? Car napkin dispenser (an actual gift given at my Christmas celebration)? Snuggie?

Cage the Elephant

I had never heard of Cage the Elephant until two weeks ago... and now I cannot stop listening to their self-titled album. It was an odd convergence of media that brought me to them.

Happy Winter Solstice

Just wanted to say happy winter solstice! Enjoy the shortest day of the year (for us silly northern hemisphere folk).
